INTENSIVE COUPLES THERAPY

Private Couples Intensive Therapy

A time-limited, immersive counseling option for couples seeking focused relationship work

Couples Intensive Therapy is a private, accelerated format designed to help couples address entrenched relational patterns, rebuild emotional connection, and gain clarity in a compressed timeframe. Rather than spreading work across months of weekly 50-minute sessions, intensives provide extended, uninterrupted time over consecutive days, allowing for deeper engagement, emotional repair, and meaningful momentum. This service is offered by consultation only to ensure clinical appropriateness, safety, and readiness for intensive work.

What Is a Couples Intensive?

A Couples Intensive is a structured, evidence-based therapy format that may include assessment, education, and intervention delivered over two to three consecutive days.

This approach allows couples to:

  • Identify and understand recurring relational patterns

  • Address emotional disconnection, communication breakdowns, or trust injuries

  • Practice new ways of relating in real time with clinical guidance

  • Leave with clarity, tools, and a grounded plan moving forward

The work is informed by established models, including Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Gottman-informed approaches.

Who This Format Is For

Couples Intensives may be appropriate for couples who:

  • Feel stuck in repeated conflict or emotional disconnection

  • Are healing after betrayal or significant trust disruption

  • Have demanding professional or family schedules

  • Want more depth and momentum than weekly therapy allows

  • Are navigating relationship crisis or major transition

Who This Format Is Not For

Couples Intensives are not appropriate when there is:

  • Active substance abuse or untreated addiction

  • Ongoing physical violence or coercive control

  • An active affair that has not ended

  • Severe, untreated mental health conditions or active suicidal ideation

  • Lack of voluntary participation from either partner

If these concerns are present, alternative or higher levels of care will be discussed and appropriate referrals provided.

How the Intensive Is Structured

If a Couples Intensive is determined to be clinically appropriate, the work typically unfolds across three core phases, delivered over two to three consecutive days.

Assessment & Understanding
The intensive begins with a thorough exploration of the relationship, including joint discussion, individual perspectives, relational history, and communication patterns. This phase focuses on identifying core interaction cycles and clarifying what is keeping the couple stuck.

Repair, Communication, & Emotional Reconnection
The majority of the intensive focuses on guided therapeutic conversations, emotional processing, and real-time communication coaching. Couples practice new ways of relating, address emotional injuries, and work toward rebuilding trust and connection within a structured, supportive environment.

Integration & Forward Planning (Optional)
When appropriate, additional time may be used to consolidate progress, integrate new skills, and develop a plan for maintaining changes moving forward. This phase supports clarity, closure, and next-step planning.

Scheduling & Availability

Couples Intensives are most often scheduled Friday through Sunday to accommodate professional and family commitments.

Formats may include:

  • 2-Day Intensive (approximately 12 hours total)

  • Optional 3rd Day (approximately 6 additional hours)

All intensives are customized based on the couple’s needs and goals.

Important Considerations

  • No Guarantee of Relationship Outcome
While intensives often create meaningful shifts, outcomes vary. This work cannot guarantee reconciliation, prevent separation, or resolve all conflict.

  • Emotional Activation Is Normal
Intensive work involves vulnerability and emotional movement. Discomfort can be part of the process and is supported within a structured, therapeutic framework.

  • Preparation Is Not Required
Couples do not need to prepare in advance. Guidance is provided throughout each step of the process.

Consultation & Next Steps

Couples Intensive Therapy is offered by consultation only.

The consultation process allows us to:

  • Determine clinical fit and readiness

  • Ensure emotional and relational safety

  • Clarify goals and expectations

  • Discuss structure and scheduling availability
